By Matthew Kyazze

Mutabazi the Hip-Hop/R&B vocalist based out of Orange County, CA.
Mutabazi is a Hip-Hop/R&B vocalist based out of Orange County, CA. His vocal versatility and impactful lyrics have made him one of the most in demand independent artists in Southern California. He's cultivating a unique style while appealing to the masses. His presence in the studio proves he's a force to be reckoned with. He first caught our attention with his song "What's Poppin".

Cover art by FFA member James Wrinn.

Mutabazi only started considering the possibility of music as a career in 2015, while residing in Denver, CO. “I used to just mess around and do different voices with friends before I figured out I can sing and switch melodies to how I wanted. I later figured out I was pretty good at it.”

Mutabazi is not only an artist but a partner at the Independent Record Label, Voltron Independent Productions, with co-founder Nick Smith. “We are building something very special and it's completely organic. Although I am mostly on the West Coast and he is in Denver, we are getting a lot of love throughout the whole country. We've had songs played on the radio in the UK. Once Covid is over we want to be able to travel while doing what we love most. I want to entertain the world! I want everyone to feel like a VIP!”
We are very excited to see what's next for the artist, for now stream his new song "Self Sustained"!

Eva Shaw's new responsibility in the Hip Hop industry.

By Matthew Kyazze

Eva Shaw's new responsibility in the Hip Hop industry.

For those of you who don't know Eva Shaw, she is a Canadian artist from Toronto. She has had success in the fashion industry, and has marked her territory in the music industry. Known for Djing, song writing, and producing.

The boys from FFA first met Eva back in 2018, when Ottawa Native City Fidelia performed at the RBC Ottawa Bluesfest. To take things to a whole other level, they unveiled some unreleased heat, with great reception from the crowd.

Instagram Post from @hashtagffa:

They released the official music video for one of the songs, on March, 29th, 2019, with DB Bantino.

Snakes by: City Fidelia & Eva Shaw feat Db Bantino from LA.

Now in 2020 she is taking hip hop to a whole level. Dropping banger after banger. One of our favourite projects this year from Eva Shaw is with Montreal artist Nate Husser, titled I Been Doing Great. They dropped a 4 track project and didn't hold back one bit. Check out the official Cover Art & Music Video for the tape below.

"I Been Doing Great"

We're excited to see what else she has in store for the year 2020. Who know's maybe we can get an official FFA collab going as well. But for now, watch her latest video below featuring Swagger Rite, Just John, & Lord Afrixan.

Nathan Miles is ready for his summertime drop!

Nathan Miles is back and ready for summer, with his new single "Crash"! He has teamed up with Kyazze once again, after the success and positive feed back from there last single "Bon Appetit," it only made sense for the two to link up again. To add to the mix they have collabed with Dreamland superstar Hevve! The energy these 3 have, is something you don't see often. This is exactly what the city of Ottawa needs to get everyone in the summer groove.

This song was recorded at the Dreamland Studio owned by the legend Quest. Mixed and mastered by the OG himself. The instrumental was created by Toronto producer Casket Jones. Once the Covid restrictions are lifted, these guys will be filming the music video with 3fiftyco and Scott Vanasse from the 4reign/FFA team. Ottawa Rapper Young Astronomer & Producer Trenchfoot Come Together & Release New Single “IDK

613 rising star Young Astronomer and prominent Ottawa bass music producer/artist Trenchfoot, join forces to release a brand new single. With high hopes to bring some dark experimental trap/dub vibes to light, the song is now out worldwide in 170+ digital stores and is available for instant purchase on Amazon Music, iTunes & Tidal including many more! Check the song out today, you won’t be disappointed - link is provided below

Let’s get down to the details ~

SONG REVIEW & RATING ⤦

The song starts out robust in nature with a very dark sounding repeating echo of Young Astronomer from the shadows with his signature raw vocals, a mixture of ambient noises - build up & trap sounding 808’s make this song super unique in its own lane, local up and coming bass music producer Trenchfoot (Big Tooth Records) showcases his versatility in both making/mastering a professional track & showing how easy it is for him to play around and instantly make a hit, I think they made a deadly combination with this truly original sounding production.

With the catchy repeating hook of, “I be rolling don’t really know where I’m going, I don’t know I don’t know where I’m going, passed the store the liquor store I am so emotional breathe the dro and gain control I be in my zone I be in my zone”. It’s safe to say Young Astronomer is clearly out of his comfort zone and looking to emerge as not only a Hiphop Artist, but as a musical artist just the same by trying out new genres and tweaking the sound, working with new acts & trying to stay consistent in a ever-growing industry.

I think Young Astronomer’s latest singles “IDK” and his earlier release “Cloud 9” both have great potential to chart within its own suited playlists, and rightfully so! - Congrats on the successful release guys, can’t wait to hear new music.

 | RATING 8/10 |

A Message From The Senate Tavern

By Matthew Kyazze

A Message From The Senate Tavern

Life since Covid-19 has been something none of us will ever forget. A big group of us first heard about the virus back in December 2019. We didn't think too much of it, because it wasn't here in Canada. Then it quickly took over China. All the memes kicked in and it still seemed like nothing to stress about. After Asia it finally hit Europe, and has taken over 12,000 lives in Italy. At that point we still weren't active enough in North America, businesses were still opened. Until Covid-19 finally arrives in Canada and changes our everyday routine forever.

Now all the Provinces are really pushing Social Distancing and telling everyone to stay at home. Which is a good a thing. A lot of Canadians are waiting to receive there EI, but what's happening to our Small Businesses we all love and support? We've all seen a few things in the media, some small businesses are opening for take out. But a lot of them are still staying closed. If you're interested in helping out Small Businesses, please read the email below. This will give you a understanding on whats happening, sent from the owner of the Senate Tavern, Steve Ryan.

First, let me start by saying we feel for everyone during this truly trying time. It is taking a toll on the personal lives of many, and our sympathies go out to all that have been affected.

Although we typically stay far away from the realm of politics and social policy, we feel compelled to address some concerns that will undoubtedly affect our business and many of our industry colleagues.

We understand that there is no road map for what is happening right now and many small to medium sized businesses have been faced with a wide variety of challenges and decisions on how to handle what is being thrown their way.

When it comes to the restaurant industry, some have decided to provide take out, some have made changes to their model in an attempt to keep core employees on the payroll, while others have made the difficult decision of closing altogether. Although we have decided to be close entirely, we strongly support those who have found a way to make things work in these desperate times.

I would like to commend everyone in their efforts to help keep people safe while trying to remain resilient.

Over the past two weeks, the government has attempted to provide various solutions to many of the obstacles this situation has created. They have spoken a great deal about providing Canadians with the support necessary to get them through this crisis, and I applaud them in these efforts.

The government has also put forward quite a few programs that are aimed at helping small business. At face value, these may seem to solve some of the problems that are being thrust upon our business community, but when you take a closer look, it provides little to no help for small to medium sized restaurants.

To paint the picture effectively, I will give you the situation we are facing at our Bank Street location:

On March 1, we paid rent. On March 15, we closed our doors, and they have remained closed since.

Although The Senate on Bank Street was open until March 15, business was down close to 40% in those first two weeks of March, as customers began to feel uncomfortable with the emerging health crisis. From March 15 onward, we have had no revenue.

We paid our employees up to their final day, and then were forced to lay off our entire staff to allow them to apply for employment insurance (at the guidance of government). Therefore, in March we have incurred expenses of 50% payroll and 100% rent in a month where we saw little to no revenue.

Let me stress that this is not only about our business. I’m using The Senate’s experience as an example to provide insight as to what the restaurant industry is going through as a whole. Many of the restaurants we all love and include in our daily, weekly or monthly routines are in the exact same situation—without a clear plan, they will not have the means to make it through this crisis.

We are now seeing many restaurants partially opening to offer take out, pick up or delivery. These are establishments that do not have the resources to offer these services, but are doing so simply because they are fearful of the unknown.

If we cannot protect the restaurants that employ the people in our community, then our loved ones, friends and neighbours will not have a job to return to once this is all over.

We are now facing another rent payment tomorrow which will put further burden on our financial situation. I know many other institutions are in the same position. The government has decided to let individual landlords and tenants work out payments on their own, and with varying opinions on what should be done a great deal of animosity will fester between both parties. Is it right for a landlord to expect rent from a property that is no longer legally able to operate under the terms it was originally leased? Is it reasonable for the landlord to not receive rent, forcing them to be unable fulfill their own obligations and incur unwanted financial stress? I would say it is not.

Although it is NOT being offered, is it reasonable for the government to ask a small business to take out a 100k loan to pay rent and utilities for 3 months while not being able to operate? It would take a restaurant with a yearly revenue of $1,000,000.00 a full year to repay that debt before it would be in the black and that’s if everything returns to normal immediately.

I implore the government to address this situation head on and to do what is right for all small businesses—and in turn, all Canadians.

If all commercial mortgages were to be suspended interest free until the government feels business can open again, landlords could then pass this benefit on to their tenants.

Mortgage Deferral – Rent Deferral – Zero Interest

There needs to be a clear conversation about this issue and it needs to happen now. It is the single most important conversation surrounding small businesses today.

If you would like to help restaurants and other small businesses get the support they need, please share this message with others, and contact your local councillors and MP.

There is also a very worthwhile movement started by restauranteurs that is gaining a lot of momentum. It speaks to the challenges we are currently facing and provides solutions that could help lessen damages to the hospitality industry.

Head to https://www.savehospitality.ca for more information on the movement and how you can help!

Stay safe everyone, and we look forward to serving you once this is all over!

Sincerely,

Steve Ryan

FFA & 4REIGN RECORDS PRESENTS- BON APPETIT BY NATHAN MILES FT KYAZZE

No more games, FFA AND 4REIGN Records are here to drop bangers and bangers only. To start things off Nathan Miles is back with some new music. Trap Valley was nice but it's time to pull up the socks. Miles delivers a perfect melody from start to finish. The theme of the songs seems to be, everybody wants to eat well. Nathan has his grillz shining, while enjoying the mouth watering food from the King Eddy.  For his first feature he has created something truly special with the FFA CEO, Matt Kyazze.

Kyazze & Nathan Miles enjoying the food at the King Eddy. Shot by @_scottyv.

The last time we saw Mr.Kyazze was back in November 2019, when he released his first Music Video to his single McLovin ft. Black Iri$h.

Kyazze expresses a different vibe in Bon Appetit with Nathan Miles. He experiments with a Jazz/Rnb feel to it, which fits the part perfectly. Expect more music from these two together and separately!
Check out the video below if you didn't watch the video at the top. Cameos from Vctr, Cicaeda, New Age Hip, and Bait James.
